APRIL mission of the month

| April’s Mission of the Month is The Synergy Project, a street outreach program of Valley Youth House whose mission is to help young people build foundations for future growth and independence. Synergy works with youth ages 24 and below who are experiencing homelessness, living in cars or on the street, couch surfing, or nomadically traveling the country via freight train. Some are runaways, while others may have been or still are trafficked. In some ways, these youth face greater challenges than unhoused adults because they aren’t allowed in programs like the Code Blue cold weather shelters. They may also be less likely to seek help, as doing so could mean losing control over their situation. The money donated to The Synergy Project is used for essential survival supplies such as food, clothing, shoes, hygiene products, hand warmers, sleeping bags, tents, and tarps. It may also help provide practical needs like gas, laundry, and other day-to-day necessities. In addition, Synergy offers peer support, informal counseling (individual, family, or group), information and referral services, and assistance to help youth transition off the streets. DUMC has known Robert “Woody” Wood, Street Outreach Coordinator for The Synergy Project of Bucks County, and has supported this important work for many years. Many of us have seen Woody at DUMC with his jeep and trailer, which provide shower facilities for those in need. He connects with these young people in meaningful ways, and his dedication and compassion reflect a deep commitment to serving others. Please consider supporting this worthwhile mission.
