Serving Together: Growing our connections with community organizations like FISH
DUMC is striving to have more hands-on connections with the missions we support. Financial support is important, but there is something powerful about showing up, serving alongside others, and building relationships within our community. Our MLK Jr. Day of Service, community dinners, and shower ministry are wonderful examples of DUMC putting faith into action. Through these ministries, we have opportunities not only to serve, but also to learn from and connect with people in our community.
Organizations such as FISH and Code Blue have become important partners in our community outreach. They help us connect with people who can benefit from our community dinners and shower ministry. Code Blue generously allows us to use their van to provide transportation to our monthly community dinner. FISH also hosts a quarterly ecumenical workgroup where churches and community organizations come together to improve communication, share ideas, and work collaboratively to address specific community needs. DUMC is blessed with wonderful facilities and convenient parking, so we have offered to host these meetings in the future.
FISH is always looking for people to serve. Volunteers are educated in area resources and have working relationships with the organizations they refer to. The volunteers work from home using their own phones and computers to respond to calls during one or more shifts per month. See their website for more information. https://www.doylestownfish.org/
